Out with Sara: Spruce up your drink choices for spring

Share Article

image from media.pennlive.comIt’s that time of year when— unless you’re married to one drink at all times — you start to switch from your dark rum and diet to gin and tonic (if you’re my dad), reds to whites (if you’re many wine drinkers and most of my girlfriends), or perhaps ditch the oatmeal stouts for a refreshing wheat beer.

In other words, we’re starting to lighten our palate for warmer weather — and what better time to seek out new cocktail menus?

Home 231 released its spring drink menu nearly two weeks ago. Try Grape Blossom, combining St. Germain elderflower liqueur with Pisco Capel and green grapes ($10) or the Ginger-tini, which uses Absolute Wild Tea, Zen Green Tea and fresh ginger ($10). The Spicy Kiwi Margarita— made with Cabo Wabo Resposado, Triple Sec, jalepeno and kiwi ($10) — is on my must-try list.

So, you’re looking for an Easter drink, right? The Chocolate Avenue Grill has launched its spring cocktail list, and on it you’ll find just the fix for your grown-up Easter palate: The Chocolate Peanut Butter Egg Martini ($9) is Hershey’s favorite Easter candy in cocktail form.

I’m more likely to opt for the Blood Orange-Tini ($10), which uses Stoli vodka and blood orange, and is topped with Korbel Brut for a bubbly sweet/tart treat.

Perhaps I’m a sucker for the blood orange because the “New” Old Fashioned ($8) also sounds great; it’s Maker’s Mark muddled with blackberry, blood orange, agave nectar and bitters.
