We’re more than halfway through the month, but it’s never too late to pay homage to a great spirit.
Did you know? Bourbon is the official spirit of the United States, by act of Congress.
This month we celebrate bourbon and take a look at some new ways to enjoy this patriotic liquor.
Chandler Carranza, a spirits category manager and former bartender with Fine Wine & Good Spirits lends a few tips, even for non-whiskey drinkers:
- Instead of a Manhattan or on the rocks, lighten upyour bourbon with an old classic like club soda. Try: Bourbon Wildberry Bramble, made with blackberry, raspberry and strawberry puree, bourbon, topped with soda and garnished with blackberries and a lemon twist.
- If you are not a bourbon drinker but do drink whiskey, determine the best bourbon for you by its second key ingredient, rye or wheat. If you prefer Canadian whiskey (sweeter and lighter), look for wheat; If you prefer a Scotch or Irish whiskey, go for rye (spicier and bolder).
- There is no wrong way to enjoy a cocktail. Play around with ingredients and find what you like.
- Bourbon pairs well with the all-American steak, but it’s not the only answer. Do remember to choose a pairing that is bold enough to stand up to the whiskey, even if it’s a pork or chicken dish. If your entree is too light, it will be overpowered by your cocktail.
