Last year, I waxed about the good ol’ days of youth: running through the yard, days spent at the pool, dinner fresh from the garden every day. This year is different in that I work for myself, so I can manipulate my time a little bit more now, making room for the occasional pool day, better care of my gardens and more cooking.
Looking back, I only hit a few of those summer “resolutions.” Andy and I traveled to Erie (what a blast), Baltimore and enjoyed AYCE crab legs on the deck. I also visited Boston for a blogging conference.

What I didn’t do was run, go to Hersheypark, camp or hit up that Adventure Experience at Roundtop. Oops.
Fortunately this year already, I spent an evening at The Boardwalk riding waterslides like a kid, we got in that Orioles game, ran a new 5K, and spent a long weekend in Luray, Va. in a cabin, which – let’s face it – is as close as I’m probably getting to camping.
I’d still love to spend more time in our beautiful state parks, and I am eking out a short beach trip next weekend.
Andy and I haven’t finalized our summer travel plans just yet. We’d love to return to Erie — the perfect vacation for us with equal amounts of fishing and wineing — or Chicago (which I still regret not blogging about) but we’d also like to do something new, yet affordable. We’ve tossed around Maine (where to?), St. Louis, Savannah — but mostly our daydreaming takes us west.
We’d love to just hit the open road for a few weeks (a longtime dream of mine), but that’s just not in the cards. We both want to see the Pacific Ocean, period. California wine country is on our “must” list, but we’re thinking of saving that for a five-year anniversary. Andy also dreams someday of visiting Alaska, so add that to the list.
Where are your favorite places to visit? Bonus points for east coast (or otherwise drive-able) and budget-friendly!
