Perhaps you’ve been to Jigsy’s before, likely for their Old Forge-style pizza, that famous stuff best-known in northeastern Pennsylvania, or the “Pizza Capital of the World.”
Last weekend, Jigsy’s opened its newly remodeled downstairs for Jigsy’s Underground.
The event, which I live-tweeted, kicked off with a free wine tasting from Spring Gate Vineyard. We sampled several semi-dry, dry and sweet wines, some of which are available on Jigsy’s menu. Jigsy’s also often caters Friday night events at Spring Gate Vineyard.
Jigsy’s only recently attained a brewpub license (previously they were a BYOB) and they serve Pennsylvania wines and are starting to brew their own beer.
Following, we grabbed an appetizer — the day’s Supper Club special of Parmesan Tortellini Bites with dipping sauce. These were delicious! Andy joked that he wants to just keep popping them in his mouth like popcorn.
Jigsy’s full menu was available, but we opted for the Supper Club specials: Pasta Primavera for me; Braised Beef Manicotti for Andy. A fresh Italian salad (with house Italian dressing) and a good chunk of bread accompanied the meal.
The food was delicious and fresh, and portions were large — we both took half of our entrees home.
After dinner, we popped back over to the tasting bar to sample Jigsy’s new craft beers. We tried samples of a Citra Wheat, a Pale Ale and a Chocolate Porter. The porter was our favorite, so we got a pint each to wash down dessert.
Options included cannoli and tiramisu, but we couldn’t help by try Jigsy’s Peanut Butter Pie. This massive portion of sweetness tasted just like a peanut butter egg with its chocolate crust and thick peanut butter filling.
This was our first trip to Jigsy’s, and we really enjoyed everything. Staff was friendly and accommodating, and the new downstairs is great little hideout. We’ll definitely be back.
Jigsy’s Underground is now open every weekend.
On Friday nights, “Eat, Drink, Play Pool!” featuring free pool play this Friday to kick it off.
