It’s a fact: bars and restaurants come and go. Right now, five local properties are available for sale. I have some ideas for a few of them myself!
- Mount Hill Tavern, 2120 Colonial Road, Harrisburg
Beautiful facility and property. I didn’t get to Mount Hill Tavern often, but my experience there was terrific. It’s where I learned to like bread pudding. Today is its last day of business. The real estate, liquor license, all furniture fixtures and equipment are included in the sale.
- Rillo’s Restaurant, 60 Pine Street, Carlisle
Award Winning Legendary central Pa. landmark. Business is included in sale price; no intention of closing. I have many memories of all-you-can-eat pasta Tuesdays and many birthday dinners here (plus those coffees! What were they called? They eventually came to Scott’s Grille.)
- Hoover House, 227 W. Main St, Waynesboro
This former restaurant closed five years ago in downtown Waynesboro.
- The Quarter, 321 N. Second St., Harrisburg
Ugh, this building always makes me so sad to walk past. I don’t think the New Orleans theme is right for the time or area, but this massive building has huge potential. Nightclub, live music, patio seating, private parties. I’d love to see something fresh and inviting go in here.
- Union Hotel, 240 Gettysburg Pike, Upper Allen Township
I don’t have any memories of the former Union Hotel, but it essentially closed because it couldn’t get a liquor license in then-dry Upper Allen Township. Later, Cafe Cornelia took residence, but not for long. However, Upper Allen Township just recently approved liquor licenses in the township, so this offers new possibilities for this space. I know I have some ideas!
