BACARDI Gran Reserva Ocho Años
Never one to default to rum and cokes (except for a brief affair with Meyers and Diet in my early 20s), I remember when I discovered that rums could be as nuanced as whiskies — and even good for sipping. It was a liquor and chocolate pairing during Hershey’s Chocolate Covered February many years ago, and it changed things for me.
That’s why this Bacardi Gran Reserva was interesting to me. I love the options of sipping on something other than whiskey (I’m a big proponent of sipping tequilas too).
Bacardi has some wonderful vanilla notes, and my friend Lissa immediately wanted to add cherry and almond flavors. After some experimenting, she created the Cherry Barrel, my favorite of the night.
Cherry Barrel
- 3 oz Bacardi Gran Reserve 8 Year
- 1 tsp orgeat syrup
- 1/2 oz Luxardo
- 1/2 tsp spiced cherry bitters
- 1/2 oz lime juice
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
- 1 Tbsp egg white
Combine and shake vigorously for 2 minutes. Strain and serve in a pretty glass.
