Victory Parkesburg: A Perfect Midweek Trip

Share Article

Brewery hoppers are always looking for that next getaway to a new and exciting brewery. Some take long trips to different states, while others check out what’s new and exciting in their hometown.

Victory Brewing Company at Parkesburg teeters the line between the long and short trip, which makes it the perfect day-trip brewery.

Previously, we highlighted the self-guided tour at Parkesburg, and while alone it is a great reason to check it out, it is just one of the many reasons this brewery should be your next destination.

Victory’s beers speak for themselves. For a lot of people, a sip of Victory might have been one of their first experiences with craft beer. Hop Devil is a long-standing form of the original American-style IPA that helped shape the craft beer we know and love today.

We owe a lot to Victory. They have pushed the craft beer boundaries for more than a decade, and the Parkesburg location just furthers their dedication to the craft.

Their tasting room is huge. It has two floors of ample seating with an extended bar on each floor. Both bars feature a very similar tap list with a few variations between them.

Victory’s staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the beer that they pour. The tap list features their well-known offerings but also shows off their smaller batch brews plus options from their newly opened Kennett Square location.

[Ed. note: The below tap list was from our visit in early Nov. 2016; offerings change regularly.]

One overall favorite was the Kennett Square Victory Village Barleywine, which featured heavy notes of caramel and coffee. We got it just in time considering it kicked just as we were trying to fill a few crowlers to take home.

Other highlights were the Blackboard Series Berliner Weiss with elderberries, Festibier and Nitro Hop Devil. Also, be sure to grab at least a half-pour of Hop Devil from the traditional hand pump. It’s the best way to have it, and it is always available at Victory Parkesburg.

Victory has always been dedicated to the freshest beer, and that same love is shown to their food. From unique pickle plates to pulled pork sandwiches, there is something for everyone on the menu.

Soft house-made pretzels were the first order of business after grabbing a flight. Next, our extremely helpful bartender suggested the pickle plate, and we were not disappointed. It featured traditional pickles, but the bonus was the spiced pickled pumpkin and Carolina Reaper honeydew (it was actually hot!). We finished up with house-smoked wings and were completely full.

Although we tended to stick to small plates when visiting new breweries, Victory offers a wide range of entrees, salads and more.

After finishing up at the bar, we took our pints and walked through Victory’s interactive and informative self-guided tour, which gives you an appreciation of just how large this location is. Be sure to take a few sniffs at the hop blower before leaving.

Our last order of business was to grab a few crowlers to take home. Their crowlers are extremely affordable ($5-7), and it’s hard not to leave there with just one.

Even if you have been to the Victory in Downingtown, this brewery is a whole new way to experience one of the best breweries in our area. It’s extremely inviting with a knowledgeable staff, great food and, of course, terrific beer.
