The Ellameno Beat returns to HMAC June 16!

It seems like summertime temperatures are finally here, and with that comes pool parties, evenings at Riverfront Park and a BBQ every weekend at someone’s house. And with these activities, of course, comes summertime jams!

Certain types of music go with different seasons, and there is nothing like some reggae music to go along with the hot summer days even if we are a few hours from the beach (or “shore”, depending on where you go).

This weekend we are lucky enough to have a great reggae band stop by HMAC to bestow some positive vibes and mellowed out grooves with a perfectly timed performance by South Florida’s own The Ellameno Beat.

I got a chance to connect with the guys and talk to them about their music, including their upcoming full-length album, which is set to release in August.

MJ: There are a lot of musical styles and influences that we are exposed to as musicians growing up, tell me about what helped shape your sound and where the vibe of your music comes from?

TEB: Each member was exposed to a wide variety of music at an early age, with roots music being the most impactful. As musicians, we have all been shaped by a love for the genre as well as an upbringing immersed in music, and surfing culture.

You just released the new track “Muse,” which has a great, just-in-time-for-summertime vibe to it. Tell me a bit about the track and what we can expect to hear from the upcoming album.

Muse is a very special piece to the puzzle that is the full-length record. It gives listeners a great taste of what the album has to offer in terms of mood and the message.

You guys are touring all summer long, what are some of your favorite cities to play?

We love playing in our home state of Florida in places like Jacksonville, Stuart, and Jupiter. There, we heavily identify with the ocean-inspired culture that is seemingly a very common interest statewide. We’ve been lucky enough to play at the House of Blues in Orlando a few times as well, which is always epic! Our travels have taken us to some other great cities like Charleston, SC, Wrightsville Beach, NC, Asheville NC, Portland, ME, Harlem, NY and Harrisburg, PA! We even once played a show in Popoyo, Nicaragua and got to score some of the best surf any of us have ever witnessed!

With the new tunes does that mean a bunch of tour dates this summer?

We definitely have a busy summer ahead of us! We are going to be touring frequently to support the new album, which drops in August!

Having a good time at your shows is easy to do, what type of vibe do you like to project into the crowd to get them on the same wavelength as you when you’re on stage?

We’re always looking for a groove that gets people moving! Sometimes it is in the form of upbeat ska or funk. Other times it takes the form of a heavy, behind the beat style roots tune. Nothing feels better than locking in on the audience that is physically and passionately expressing a connection with us!

Make sure you follow along with The Ellemeno Beat this summer as they tour the country and give us previews of the upcoming album. You can check out their Facebook page for updates.

Check them out this Friday, June 16 as The Ellemeno Beat hits the stage in the Capital Room at HMAC.

Admission is just $8 and you can score your tickets ahead of time by visiting the HMAC website.

There’s also a free preview show at the GK Visual office on Thursday night:
