Boutique Shopping: Indigo Bleu brings Boho to York

Share Article

One of the best things about visiting the boutiques in the area is meeting and talking with the shop owners. You’re able to see the fashionista behind the fashion and get a glimpse into their own personal style and inspiration. It’s like they’re showing you their closet and saying “here, this would look great on you!” or you’re just shopping with a (very fashionable) friend who has a knack for knowing what will look good.

This summer, one of my favorite local shops has been Indigo Bleu, a women’s clothing boutique in York that is all things boho-chic, whimsy and free. I chatted with owner (and fellow jumper lover) Zara Brooks to learn more about the boutique and how it reflects her own style style and personality.

HF: When walked into Indigo Bleu, I immediately thought “so boho!” What does this style mean to you and how does this carry into the pieces you choose to carry?

ZB:  When I think of the word “bohemian” the first thing that pops into my head is unconventional. I was always inspired by the bohemian lifestyle and particularly the boho off-beat, rule breaking clothing which are artistic, free-spirited and whimsical. The fabrics are flowy and full of patterns inspired by the world. I love shopping at places like Anthropologie and Free People but those stores are pricey, so I wanted Indigo Bleu to not only be based off my boho-chic style but also be affordable as well.

All the pieces in the shop are centered around the boho lifestyle and are always changing to ensure everything you buy is uniquely yours. I work with 50+ designers that are exclusive to boutiques, so you won’t find them at the mall. All the jewelry is handmade across the country and about half of the jewelry is handcrafted by my mom.

What trends are you loving right now? Are there any pieces in the shop you’re dying over?

The trend I’m living for this summer is jumpers! They are cut so differently than they use to be and now fit a variety of people. Jumpers are fun, flirty and can be dressed up or down. Pictured below is one of my favorite jumpers we have in stock online or in store!

Why do you love Indigo Bleu?

I always wanted a shop that had something for everyone. It was important to me that when a young woman comes in with her mom, they can both find something they love and can share the same shopping experience. I’ve always enjoyed and have fond memories of shopping with my mom and it was vital for me to provide a place for that experience to take place at Indigo Bleu.

From rompers and cool cut-off shorts to flirty dresses and cute tanks, you’re sure to find the perfect piece to bring out your inner boho-chic at Indigo Bleu. Check it out 39 W Philadelphia Street in York, PA.

Zara recently opened a second location in Lewes, DE, too, so stop by if you’re hitting the shore this summer!
