Styling services: Threads of Hershey

It may be weird to think of fashion as a science, but for Kristen Campbell, owner of Threads of Hershey, it is.

Campbell is a “wardrobe stylist” who uses her love of fashion (and background in science) to help women build their sense of style, closets, and confidence. She offers a range of services including closet audits, styling sessions and personal shopping appointments all meant to help clients look and feel great.

Campbell is ready to plan fall fashion!

She approaches styling with a three-step “scientific” method:

  1. Closet audits – When Campbell first meets clients, she’ll go through each piece of their closet evaluating how it fits, why the client bought it or likes it and how they wear it. If it’s not a great piece or contributing a lot to the client’s style, she’ll get rid of it (to make room for a better item, of course!) This helps Campbell understand the client’s personality, tastes, and dislikes.
  2. Styling session – Once Campbell gets a feel for the client’s style, she’ll create a lookbook – either sent digitally so the client can access it through their phone or in hardcover form – of  7-10 looks based on the client’s personality and seasonal trends.
  3. Shopping list – After establishing looks that will work for the client’s style, Campbell will create a list of items she encourages the client to buy. She’ll sometimes even shop with clients to help them find the perfect pieces for their closets.

This methodical approach makes Campbell different than most stylists, who typically start with a shopping trip and then work on styling outfits from their haul and cleaning out closets.

I’ve been boasting that Central PA has a great variety of places to shop, so naturally I had to ask Campbell her favorite places to visit:

Three Little Birds Boutique (Mechanicsburg, PA)  – Campbell loves the fun, trendy outfits shop owner Margaret Miller carries. It’s a great place to pick up unique items that will add a little bit of flair to your wardrobe.

Simply J Boutique (Hershey, PA) – According to Campbell, this is a great place to buy high-quality basics you can use to build your wardrobe. She loves to pick up jackets and pants here.

Nordstrom Rack – Stores like Nordstrom Rack make high-end brands more accessible and affordable and loves the range of styles they offer. Plus, at more affordable prices, clients can really maximize their budgets.

Campbell also loves to shop online and will use keyword searches to dial down the details and find the exact items for her clients want or need. Seriously, she has fashion down to a science!
