#PABeer At Your Finger Tips: Brewers of PA Launches Digital Ale Trail App

Share Article

Having an app on your phone for everything has become commonplace.

There’s an app for dating, rating food, and tracking really whatever you want about your daily life, so why not have one for nearly every brewery in Pennsylvania?

That was the exact thought the Brewers of Pennsylvania had when they created the recently-launched “Digital Ale Trail” app.

This app is full of helpful tips, lists, events and more all right at your fingertips. Now, with just a few taps you can easily find that next pint of Pennsylvania beer.

Download the app by searching Brewers of Pennsylvania in the App Store on iOs or Google Play Store. I decided to dive into the app, and here is what I found.

First view

When you open the app you immediately see how expansive it is.

Right from the jump, you can find the nearest brewery, events, top-rated beers, and even start your own PA brewery passport.

My first instinct was to go to the “Nearby” section, and it pulled up 12 breweries within 10 miles of me. You can then click on the map symbol on the right to see exactly where it is on your phone’s native map app.

If you click on the name of the brewery itself, it will toggle a profile with relevant info such as phone number, brewery features, hours, beers offered by the brewery (not current tap lists), and a few other features to guide you.

I went back to the home page and then selected “Tours.” At first, I thought this might be a listing of breweries who offered tours, but it wasn’t.

The BOP broke down PA craft beer into six different regions, and within each region, you can select a lineup of breweries to create your tour.

You can even save it to the “My Stuff” section for reference later.

Since I saw that, my next logical place to go was the “My Stuff.” Within there you can find breweries you mark “favorites,” check out saved photos, look at your tours, and even create a wishlist of beers.

Other homepage features include:

  • Passport – Check off the breweries you’ve been to
  • Events – See what events are upcoming at local breweries
  • Top-Rated – See current top-rated beers from across the state
  • Photobooth – Store photos of your beer trips
  • News – Read the latest news from the BOP

Beers

This is the second tab at the bottom of the screen right next to the “Home” tab.

I feel like this is where a lot of people will live within this app when not gallivanting from brewery to brewery. Within the page, there are a few sections where you can dive into the beers.

Beer Styles

Once on to this page, you can select the style you want to check out. Next, you’ll get a full list of that style of beer from all over Pennsylvania.

Naturally, I gravitated towards American-Style IPA and clicked on St. Boniface Craft Brewing Co.’s 3LB IPA, and whoa. Once you click on a beer, you get all the info you need from ABV to beer description.

I jumped around to a few others and while most had some information others were a bit lighter. Still, it was impressive to see how much time went into putting this together.

Beer by Brewery

Don’t want to look at the beers by style? The BOP has you hooked up so you can see beers produced by every brewery in the app.

Again, these aren’t current tap lists. They are just lineups of beers from the breweries, but I think you can get a sense of what the brewery is all about by looking at these extensive lists.

Breweries

Following the “Beer” tab is the breweries tab.

It has similar pages to the opening page with the Nearby Breweries and Breweries by Region pages, but it also shows the whole map of breweries in Pennsylvania.

The map allows you to scroll thumb your way through the state and pull up breweries from points on the map and either visit their page within the app or get directions.

How to Make Your Own Beer(STAY)cation

You can also click on the “Build a Brewery Tour” section, and it will pull up the same regions I mentioned above.

Passport + Activity

These are the last two tabs in the app, and both give you an interactive way to explore PA beer.

With the passport app you can “stamp” your digital passport anytime you visit a brewery to achieve rewards for visiting a certain amount of breweries.

It doesn’t look like you can pull up the passport until you visit a brewery, however.

Under the activity page, you can see where fellow PA beer drinkers are enjoying their beers, what they’re drinking, and what they are saying about the beer.

This app is a must for any PA beer drinker, especially those of us who like to take beercations.
