We like to say we’ve been embracing local since before it was cool, being as impassioned about our area and Pennsylvania as a whole for, like, ever or whatever. We love seeing so many amazing makers, bakers, entrepreneurs, and doers create and thrive — and we love to support them and remind YOU that they’re here.

For the craft beer lover that isn’t another bottle opener

Lew Bryson isn’t writing Pennsylvania Breweries anymore (I have the first and third editions, and it’s still amazing how much things have changed), but Shippensburg professor Alison Feeney recently published For the Love of Beer: Pennsylvania Breweries, which examines the history, geography, and state of the beer industry in Pennsylvania through the stories of more than 100 Pa. breweries.

Pair this with a t-shirt or hat supporting the Pennsylvania craft beer documentary I worked on through GK Visual, Poured in PA.

Bonus: Throw in a six-pack or bomber from your favorite local brewery.

Our picks: A selection of cool new cans from Zeroday Brewing Co.

For your bar-hopping/history buff nephew

Former Patriot-News reporter M. Diane McCormick recently released her first book, Well-Behaved Taverns Seldom Make History, a fun journey through Pennsylvania pubs where that served as the start of some of the country’s biggest insurrections and rebellions.

Bonus points if you pair this with a gift card to one of the pubs featured in the book. Extra bonus points if you make the road trip with them.

We’d also recommend a bottle of Pennsylvania booze with its own historic ties. Stoll & Wolfe Whiskey is preserving Lancaster County distilling traditions that go back as far as 1753.

For the fashionista with legit everything

Amma Jo exudes bright prints, and we are here for it. Proprietor Amma Johnson designed her own signature handbag line (plus wallets and dresses), which launched her fashion career — and you can now shop her curated finds and custom designs at her storefront in Strawberry Square. Need help? Shop Amma Jo’s Holiday 2018 Gift Guides!

If this isn’t so much your giftee’s style, let me instead introduce you to Stash x Midtown Dandy, located conveniently down the street (so you can check both in person and decide for yourself). I have more vintage earrings, sheer or beaded tops, and denim jackets than should prob be legal, so I do warn you that when you enter here you may end up with your own holiday ensemble in lieu of gifts, but let’s be real, that’s a huge win too. Extra bonus: You can shop for your dudes here as well.

For comfy but fashionable finds for the holidays, I love to shop Sassy Jeans & More, located upstairs at the West Shore Farmers Market. She has the *best* denim, custom-fitted for you, plus holiday party-friendly frocks and the softest cozies for snow days and Netflix nights.

BONUS: You still have a few days to shop and earn $10 Sassy Bucks for every $50 you spend!

Overwhelmed by all of this? By shopping in general? Feel tired? Check this: go to Little Amps (Uptown/Green St. location). Yes. Get yourself a cortado. I’ll wait. Okay, now that you’re a bit more energized, take a look around. You can shop for so. many. people. right. here.

Music lover? Scope that vinyl collection!

Coffee lover? Any combo of beans, freeze-dried grounds (for instant coffee that doesn’t suck!), sweet new Miir travel mugs, gift cards!

Local? Little Amps has a host of brand new swag with their new logo — sweatshirts, pom-adorned beanies, tote bags.

Plant lover? HaHa Plants have an installation of adorable plants of various sizes and styles. Grab a succulent for your sister or a Christmas cactus for your mom.

Shopping? Done.

For the new grad/parents/newlywed/impossible-to-buy-for

I love assembling themed gift baskets. Like, love. I spend so much time trying to assemble a just-so themed gift concept for everyone on my list that I tend to get a little in over my head. Make it easier on yourself by following some of my tried-and-true gift combos.

Movie Night

Help plan an evening out to enjoy the movies.

  • Midtown Cinema gift card, annual subscription, or “date night”

Date Night In

It’s cold out. It’s going to get colder. Help your giftee enjoy it.

The Explorer

Build a basket with gift cards to a variety of local artisan beverage producers that will take them all over the greater Harrisburg area.

By buying from these retailers, you’re helping a small business owner, some of which are Sara Bozich clients, so I’m extra grateful.
