Boutique Shopping: Building Character

Share Article

With more than 60 shops of homemade, vintage and upcycled goods, BUiLDiNG CHARACTER is a true embodiment of the artistic and creative spirit that Lancaster is known for.

The massive marketplace, tucked just off Queen Street, sprawls over 10,000 feet of warehouse space and offers everything from antiques, vintage collectibles, home decor, jewelry, accessories, and organic products. To be honest, it’s basically the entire Etsy website in real life. It’s a treasure trove of creativity and craftsmanship, and you’re bound to find something no matter your style, interest or taste.

Here are my favorites:

Sherry’s FABulous Finds

Who doesn’t love a designer deal? That’s what Sherry is known for. She collects designer clothes, purses, shoes and more to offer at discount prices. My friend found an amazing Michael Kors bag there without breaking the bank, so Sherry’s definitely worth checking out if you’re into handbags. Check her out on the first floor of Warehouse A.

Fotographiya

Fotographiya offers a curated collection of vintage photographs, postcards, and framed photography. They also make their own photo jewelry which is super unique. It’s a different experience to browsing a strangers photos, but I can see the intrigue and allure. Find them on the first floor, Warehouse A.

Plant Friendly

Loving Plant Friendly’s watercolors and succulents may make me the most cliche millennial, but I don’t care. They’re so cute! A succulent-watercolor duo make the perfect desk decor or quick gift! Located on the first floor of Warehouse A.

Spruced Lancaster

If you’re on the hunt for home decor or interior design inspiration, you’ll definitely want to check out Spruced Lancaster. They specialize in refinishing vintage and outdated furniture with chalk paint and adding their own crafty touches to other vintage items they find. Their “spruced” up pieces are Pinterest-worthy and one of a kind. Seriously, check out this dresser they just sold. Find them in Warehouse C.

Of course, these are just my stand-outs. Lancaster has a thriving crafter, artist and maker community, and the entire space is worth checking out, just to get a taste of Lancaster’s artist, maker and crafter community and see what their incredible talent has to offer.

Find BUiLDiNG CHARACTER at 342 N. Queen Street in Lancaster.

And if you’re in the mood for more shopping, there’s plenty to explore along the 300 block of Queen Street, including Sophie Stargazer and Nicole Taylor Boutique. I also recommend stopping in The Belvedere Inn for lunch or dinner. It’s a Lancaster classic!
