Music + Comedy = ? Lineup
Harrisburg University’s Spring Concert Series welcomes Tig Notaro on March 16 at Whitaker Center.
We’ve — and I think it’s safe to say everyone else has — been talking a lot about Harrisburg U’s new concert series.
This Saturday, southern rock/jam group, The Marcus King Band plays Club XL (who now seems to be calling themselves XL Live), and next month we get The Record Company and Frank Turner. It’s a great lineup anywhere, but in Harrisburg, a city often considered awash in cover bands (or just the same bands on repeat), it’s pretty spectacular. And then there’s the announcement of what — Death Cab for Cutie! — on Harrisburg’s Riverfront!?
Things are looking pretty good.
And while Tig Notaro has ties to the music industry (she was a band manager in the 90s and plays a few instruments), her career is in comedy.
About Tig:
Tig Notaro is a groundbreaking stand-up comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director originally from Mississippi. Hailed for her effortless storytelling and fearless stage presence, her subject matter ranges from the delightfully absurd to the monumentally serious. Rolling Stone recently named Tig “one of the 50 best stand-up comics of all time.”
I watched her show, One Mississippi, on Amazon Prime during my maternity leave, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Based on her own experiences and stand-up, it follows Tig as she returns to her home in Mississippi after the sudden death of her mother.
Her latest stand-up feature, Happy to Be Here, is available on Netflix. She and her wife/writing partner also recently sold a screenplay, First Ladies, to Netflix. Tig will play First Lady to Jennifer Aniston’s first female President.
It’s rare for us to get this caliber of comedians in the Harrisburg area. I’m excited to attend this show. Hope to see you there!
