The Gang Does #HBGBeerWeek: Events for the squad

Share Article

If beer is better with friends, then Harrisburg Beer Week is the ultimate chance to #SquadUp.

Whether your group of drinkin’ buddies has a group message that blows up every Friday night (and then Saturday morning to recount the night) or if you’re looking to reconnect with friends you haven’t seen in a while, Harrisburg Beer Week offers plenty of opportunities to get the gang together.

Birdbox Karaoke Contest
ZerØday Brewing Co.

7-11 p.m., Friday, April 26

A regular activity for our friends’ group is karaoke. It’s late on Friday, Zembie’s is the next stop, and you finally buck up the courage to belt out “Pony” with as much gusto as Ginuwine himself.

That’s standard karaoke. ZerØday is flipping your normal “empty orchestra” experience on its head.

Inspired by the viral Netflix movie “Birdbox” where everyone has to be blindfolded to survive, you will, in a way, go up the mic blindfolded.

ZerØday’s crew picked out 50 songs for the night, and you won’t know what song you’re going to sing until you get to the mic.

Karaoke is more fun with a group, and this is a perfect chance to get your friends out of their element.

Fruit Boots Punk Drag Show with Evil Genius Brewing Co.
JB Lovedraft’s Micropub

8 p.m. to midnight, Friday, April 26

How do you follow up your karaoke experience? Hit up a drag show.

Move the gang from Midtown to downtown Harrisburg for a night of burlesque, amusements, performances, and all the dancing from The Sundae Best Variety Show cast.

Lovedraft’s alway has a stacked tap list, but you’ll definitely want to check out the Evil Genius Beer Company tap takeover, including their #Adulting guava-infused IPA.

Battle of the Homebrewers
Broad Street Market

2-5 p.m., Sunday, April 28

Meet at your brunch spot before rallying the gang to Broad Street Market for the perfect #SundayFunday.

A can’t-miss event every Harrisburg Beer Week, Battle, as its known around #HBGBeerWeek HQ features more than 30 local homebrewers putting their best foot forward to show up and show out.

Beer Fests are always better with a group. You get to compare your thoughts about the beer and clue each other into what (or what not) to try.

At Battle, you’ll definitely find more in the “OMG did you try this!?” range than the “don’t even go near that” category.

Plus, you can grab food from a variety of market vendors throughout the event.

Harrisburg Beer Runners’ Bar Crawl
Multiple locations

6-9 p.m., Tuesday, April 30

After the first weekend of events, you might think about adding an extra gym day to your weekly routine.

Here’s a better idea.

While your squad might not be the ones to workout together, maybe the extra incentive of a bar crawl will help get them out.

Harrisburg Beer Runners put together a 3-5 mile run that starts on City Island and hits multiple stops along the route.

Run. Drink. Repeat.

Beer Olympics
Appalachian Brewing Co.

6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 2

Assemble your perfect lineup of beer-thletes for a night of games at ABC.

ABC put together a tournament of five challenges to crown a champ. The winners get a $25 gift card, their name on the Beer Olympics trophy, and, of course, bragging rights.

Beer Olympics are always more fun when everyone gets on board, so make shirts, come up with great toast or catchphrase, and don’t forget a choreographed victory dance.

Mini Golf Tournament
Water Golf City Island

11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, May 5

Although it’s been a long week, you’re not ready to let go of the #HBGBeerWeek magic just yet.

Give it one last hurrah, but at a mild pace, with a Mini Golf Tournament on City Island.

This has quickly become one of my favorite events of the week. Even last year when the weather was a bit unseasonable, it was still a blast.

Beer on the course, a killer swag bag, and snacks after your round makes for an easy-going, fun afternoon to say goodbye to the week that way.

There a limited amount of teams left, so #squadup now.

What are you planning with your group for #HBGBeerWeek?
