Harrisburg Flea Scene: Showcasing Local Artisans

Share Article

For a long time, when people heard “art” and “Harrisburg,” they might’ve thought only of the Annual Artsfest of Greater Harrisburg, the capital city’s trademark riverfront festival held over Memorial Day weekend that welcomes artists from across the state and ushers in summer.

Those in the know understand that Harrisburg has long had an arts scene, and in recent years, growth in events that bring together local artisans to showcase their wares together.

HBG Flea

The HBG Flea

Flea markets have come a long way from the “bring whatever you find in your garage or basement” blossoming into a showcase for the local artisan and maker community.

The HBG Flea sets up shop in Harrisburg on the first Saturday of every month. From November through April, they’re on the first floor of Strawberry Square.

Starting tomorrow, the gang heads over to the outdoor space at Midtown Cinema for outdoor markets, where they’ll be until October.

With a diverse lineup of more than 50 local vendors featuring everything from cookies and hot sauce to vinyl collections and woodworking, there’s bound to be something for everyone who stops by to shop.

What’s really cool about The HBG Flea is that they also feature service providers, too, like Be Here and Now Yoga and Personal Training and Sentinent Sisterhood, alongside crafters and makers.

I’m looking forward to checking out the vintage clothes Stash and Damon and Dora’s will have on-site, too, because vintage clothing collections are the coolest. Also, how cool are these coasters from Dazzling Daisy Designs? They’ll be there, too!

The Flea scored a prime location right outside Zeroday Brewing, so you can grab a beer and a Knead pizza inside to fuel up for your shopping.

The HBG Flea will be hosting several other markets throughout the year, too.

HBGfest, May 25-27 at Riverfront Park

You can enjoy The HBG Flea AND Artsfest together this year! The two will be collaborating again for the 3rd Annual HBGfest, which brings more than 40 vendors, crafters and makers from all over Central PA under one tent at the arts festival. Plus, the entire festival is a lot of fun and filled with artists, so you’re bound to find a new piece or two to take home with you!

Relayfest, June 15 at City Island

Relay for Life of Harrisburg and HBG Flea are partnering together for the 2nd year in a row for a day of festivities on City Island. 20% of proceeds of the booth spaces will benefit the American Cancer Association.

HBG Flea at HBG Mural Festival, Sept. 8, in front of Capitol Building

Sprocket Mural Fest will complete 10 murals (adding to the 18 completed during the first Mural Festival in 2017). The Festival will also include artist demonstrations, food trucks, a pop-up Biergarten and live bands playing all day.

Holiday Mini Flea, Dec. 20 at Startup Harrisburg

Taking place during 3rd in the Burg, the Holiday Mini Flea gives shoppers in Harrisburg a chance to get their last-minute holiday shopping in and connects downtown 3rd in the Burg locations to the midtown locations seamlessly.

The People’s Flea and Festival

If you’re out and about hitting the markets in Harrisburg tomorrow, check out The People’s Flea and Festival, too, sponsored by 105.7 the X and Keystone Human Services with proceeds benefiting Susquehanna Service Dogs. There’ll be a flea market, great arts and crafts vendors and food trucks.

Redeux – York/Lancaster

I’ve mentioned Redeux before, but they’re worth noting again because they’re so cool. They’re not technically a flea market, but they are an emporium/marketplace, specializing in all things vintage from a host of different vendors and artists. Definitely worth checking out if vintage and collectibles are your things!

The weather is finally warmer and there’s some great finds to be found, so get out there and check out the markets!

York Flea

York Flea will be hosting a series of markets this spring and summer at various spots throughout the city. You can check them out tomorrow at the 2nd Annual Spring Flea at Collusion Tapworks. The event has more than 20 vendors lined up and bands/musicians playing throughout the day. Best of all, you can grab a beer from Collusion, too!
