Review: Evita at Fulton Theatre

Share Article

For many, September and fall means “back to school” or a new school year, but for me it means … back to the theatre!

The Fulton kicked off its 2019/2020 season last Thursday night with its production of Evita — and what a way to tango into the “new” year.

I have a feeling Lancaster will love the show just as much as Argentina loved Eva Perón. It’s festive and vibrant with powerhouse performances that keep the audience engaged and intrigued. Monica Ramirez absolutely shines as title character Eva; the range and clarity of her voice are breathtaking and you definitely won’t be crying for Argentina.

Evita contains very little spoken dialogue, but the cast’s voices carry the show along. The storyline is peppered with quips and sass that make Eva’s story even more endearing. Evita is a perfect showcase of the high-quality production you expect from The Fulton and sets the bar extremely high for the theatre’s next six shows.

It’s worth noting that The Fulton is undergoing a massive redevelopment that will not only transform the theatre itself but truly establish the Fulton as the keystone of the City’s arts world. You can just feel the excitement buzzing through the Theatre. It reminds me a lot of Open Stage of Harrisburg’s 30/30 Campaign as both are looking to elevate their presence to better serve the arts community.

It’s exciting and inspiring to see the Central PA community come together to support the arts and I’m glad Team SB has been and will continue to be a part of it!

Evita runs until October 20. Grab your tickets now.

And mark your calendars for the rest of the season because there are some great shows in store:

  • Peter Pan Thursday, November 14 – December 29
  • Murder on the Orient Express – January 14 – February 9
  • Kinky Boots Thursday – March 3 – March 29
  • Titanic – April 14 – May 10
  • Jersey Boys – June 2 – July 12

If musicals aren’t really your thing, The Fulton has another great lineup for its Studio Series. Check it out here. I’m psyched for Fun Home in the spring.

Another sidenote FYI…I would plan some extra time for pre-show dinner and drinks now that The Exchange at The Marriott is open. It’s Lancaster’s newest rooftop bar and THE absolutely spot to be. The view is incredible, and the drinks are just as amazing. You may want to stop by after the show to see the city glow at night!
