Culture Vulture: Food & Beverage

Share Article

Although we’ve all been asked to limit our social interactions (read: stay at home at much as possible), we still need to find ways to support our local businesses during this time.

Our Culture Vulture series puts it to our community to choose their own #supportlocal adventure to patronize local businesses at a time when they need it the most.

Craft your preferred “night out” from food + drink options, entertainment, and local shopping all while sitting from the comfort of your home.

Most of us are probably going to start our #SupportLocal journey here.

So many of our local restaurants, breweries, and eateries are changing the way they do business to meet customer needs and stay open during this time.

Buy a gift card, get takeout, grab a four-pack of beer to-go. Anything can help.

#DrinkLocal

Appalachian Brewing Co. has beer, food, AND spirits available for takeout, and they also have nightly specials on items with half-off meals and FREE kids meals on Fridays through March.

Make a mixed drink with Appalachian Craft Spirits found at ABC’s Mechanicsburg location or grab a bottle of spirits from Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works in Middletown.

Tattered Flag also has food and beer available to-go in addition to canned cocktails. Plus, if you haven’t heard, they are also making their own hand sanitizer for distribution to medical staff, first responders, and other emergency efforts.

They need donations to make this possible!

Please note: Hand Sanitizer is not currently available for public use, only medical staff, first responders, and other emergency efforts.

If you’re looking for more take-out beer, Boneshire Brew Works is constantly filling cans that can be ordered directly online. You can even feel like you’re sitting in Boneshire’s taproom with one of their upcoming virtual events!

Ploughman Cider is fulfilling orders of cider AND produce from Three Springs Fruit Farm right in their taproom in downtown Gettysburg.

What’s for dinner?

We’re in no shortage of takeout food either. There are SO many places to order takeout from, it may seem overwhelming.

Let’s start here: If it’s not a takeout night, you can always rely on R.G. Hummer Meats & Cheese to have prime cuts of meat. A hearty steak and potatoes night sounds like something we could all use right now.

MoMo BBQ Co. can serve one to a whole family with delicious BBQ! Pickup a Pulled Pork or Brisket sandwich for lunch or treat the family to a full BBQ dinner complete with a variety of meat and sides.

Grappling Crab Shack is opening its trailer early starting March 25! Order crab cakes, seafood jambalaya, and crab fries for dinner tonight.

What about a slice of pizza? Knead Slice Shop in Midtown is still slinging pizza by the slice or pie for takeout. I don’t know about you, but a slice of that Grandma’s Pie sounds extremely comforting. Plus, they have to-go beer available as well!

One of the faves is always Joey’s Chicken Shack and his irresistible chicken sandwiches, tenders, fries, and mac and cheese.

Fresa Bistro has HUGE salads, fresh sandwiches, and comforting soup for a perfect break from your usual PB&J quick lunch.

Need some sweets? Sweet 717 offers ordering + delivery through their Etsy store. Free delivery on orders over $35.

Call up your favorite restaurant and buy a gift card for a rainy day down the road. I’m thinking something like a nice date night at note sounds divine right now, and all you need to do is give them a call and they take care of the rest.
