March is Women’s History Month, and Pennsylvania Fine Wine & Good Spirits is using this opportunity to highlight women in wine.
Whether vintners, owners, managers or winemakers, Fine Wine & Good Spirits is celebrating women doing extraordinary work in the world of wine.
What to drink: Women in Wine
FWGS is featuring women-owned wines during March.
Here are some of my personal recommendations:
Campo Viejo Wines
Campo Viejo is run by three female winemakers. I love their tempranillo (which you can often find at Suba in Harrisburg, and I know Dusty & Julia like to share pours of this at Radish & Rye during 3rd in the Burg evenings).
This wine is on sale for just $8.99 this month (Pro tip: Buy a case). The Rioja Reserva is equally good and also on sale for $11.99 (orig. $14.99).
Wines of Illyria
We just missed seeing Indira Bayer from Wines of Illyria at the Jonestown Road Taste & Learn event (she was there on Saturday), but we happened to pick up one of her wines by total coincidence last weekend.
Jimi and I were doing a lightly themed Serbian dinner, making çevapes and “pink sauce” (He’s Serbian; I’m Croatian). I had seen these wines from Bosnia Herzegovina on my last visit to the Capital City Mall store, and I suggested he pick up a bottle.
The Plavac Mali Red Wine 2015 we tried was terrific — great price point at $16.99 — and I’m eager to try other varietals now. Extra bonus to know it’s imported by a woman from the former Yugoslavia!

Cheers to Women’s History Month!
