Now pouring: Summertime in a glass

Boneshire Brew Works beer on table outside

Summer drinks just hit different, right?

The best things to drink this summer: the crisp taste of a light beer, a citrusy cocktail, and a chilled white wine while soaking in the rays is something we wait for all year.

Along with sitting outside, you can now enjoy a drink at an actual bar again! That is a cause for a safe and modest celebration. Let’s not ruin this, kids!

Now, where should you go and what should you drink? We have some thoughts!

Our picks for best things to drink this summer

Boneshire Brew Works

Blue Hippo Wheat Beer – Talk about summer in a glass. Blueberries and Tahitian Lime take the stage but the backbone of a classic wheat beer makes this beer into a summery daydream sipper.

Pandemic Pilsner – Boneshire’s first pilsner is aptly named for when it came out, but this is one beer that we hope sticks around long past the pandemic. You know that pilsners and lagers speak to us and this one hits all the marks.

Don’t forget, you can get almost every Boneshire beer on tap in a 16 oz. crowler to-go!

Boneshire is open for both outdoor and indoor sales. They’ve expanded their outdoor seating, too!

Appalachian Brewing Co.

ALL Appalachian Brewing Co. locations are now open!

Mountain Lager – When was the last time you crushed one of these? Get back to it. It’s a crisp Dortmunder Export-style lager that has a slight hop presence and a ton of refreshment.

Argyle Sweater IPA – This is one of the newer brews to ABC’s year-round lineup. Argyle Sweater’s sweeter citrus hop flavor with a lower hop bitterness makes this IPA extremely approachable. Not to mention it pairs extremely well with light, summery dishes.

If you didn’t know already, ABC also makes their own spirits — Appalachian Craft Spirits! Be sure to check with your bartender or server to see which cocktails they are featuring.

We’ll take a Grapefruit and Orange Crush, please!

Currently, all ABC locations are open for both indoor and outdoor seating. If you haven’t taken in ABC Harrisburg’s renovated deck, now’s the time!

Tattered Flag Brewery & Still Works

Beer, spirits, and cocktails are available at Tattered Flag‘s three locations!

Tattered Flag is constantly releasing new beers on draft and in cans so be sure you’re following them on social media for that next drop.

Teutonic Knight Hefeweizen – We needed a good hefe on this list, and Tattered Flag’s hits the spot. With those classic notes of banana balanced with German hops, there’s no question why Teutonic Knight has had a place on their taps since they opened.

Sour Fruited Ales – This isn’t a specific beer but a bunch of them. Tattered Flag always digs deep into their creative brewing brains for new fruit-forward sours with any number of extra ingredients.

How about some cocktails?

Tattered Flag’s Distillery Lounge in Hershey is open both for outdoor and indoor seating. You can find over a dozen specialty cocktails made with their award-winning spirits.

Their Middletown location isn’t lacking for cocktails either and you can get cans of their Flag-A-Rita, Hurricane, and Moscow Mule to-go!

HOLLA Spirits

HOLLA doesn’t have a physical location you can visit, but their direct to your door vodka might be just what you’re looking to get. You also can find them at many Pennsylvania Fine Wine & Good Spirits stores!

Their range of flavors includes Pickle, Sweetfire Jalapeño, Peanut Butter, Lemon, Orange, and even the new Paw Paw flavor.

HOLLA won’t just leave you hanging with a bottle or pouch of spirits and no way to use it. You can find all sorts of easy cocktail recipes on their site for each of their vodka flavors.
