Steelers’ James Conner debuts “Fear is a Choice” with Midtown Scholar event

Whether he’s breaking tackles or inspiring others, James Conner has become a sign of hope and determination on and off the field.

Conner, a cancer survivor and Pittsburgh Steelers running back, is set to launch his book “Fear is a Choice” with a live virtual event hosted by Midtown Scholar at 7 p.m., Monday, June 15.

This is the first event for Conner as part of his book launch, and he will be joined by former NFL player and current American Ninja Warrior commentator, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila.

There is a chance you might know of Conner but not because he wears number 30 for the Steelers.

Conner’s “more than a football player” story started during his junior year at the University of Pittsburgh when he tore his MCL in the first game of the 2015 season.

His health during rehab continue to deteriorate until it could no longer be ignored, and he was ultimately diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Conner’s statement, “Fear is a choice. I choose not to fear cancer,” helped propel him to not only beat cancer but come back to play in his senior year at Pitt before being drafted by the Steelers.

Conner became a star in his rookie season with the Steelers and continues to be one of the team’s most beloved players both on an off the field.

In his book “Fear is a Choice,” Conner talks about his journey to beat cancer and make his way back to the football field. He pulls from his personal truths an beliefs that helped him get through the roughest moments in hopes of inspiring others.
