Making your house a home

How a Members 1st Home Equity Loan can help you

These days, we’re doing everything digitally, hitting up all the contact-free options from local businesses — and we’re spending more time at home than ever before.

That means it’s time for some of those long-standing projects to move to the top of your “to-do” list this summer.

I know for some people that means it’s finally time to splurge on a swimming pool, like this local couple, Kia and Matt. They were able to finance it easily and stress-free with Members 1st Federal Credit Union Home Equity Freedom.

It’s a great time to add value to your home — while making it a happier place for you to spend time with your family.

Our House

Andy and I bought our house in 2009, just a month before we got engaged.

Neither of us intended on making a life in the ‘burbs. I still craved city life, but we’re both from more rural areas of Pennsylvania. We called this split-level house our “starter home,” thinking we’d be here for three, maybe five years, then ultimately move to the country.

Well nearly 11 years later, here we are. Though we are lazily house-hunting (it’s nearly impossible to find something that checks all of our boxes), we’ve done a number of home projects over the years — and even some recently — to make this a better place to hang our hats (and hopefully sell to another family when we’re ready!).

Can I tell you how much I wish I had known about Members 1st’s Home Equity Line of Credit when we tackled some of these?

  • Completely renovated kitchen (our first project when we moved in!)
  • Renovated original 1958 bathrooms
  • Back patio extension and resurfacing
  • Driveway extension and refinishing
  • New garage door
  • Front patio renovation
  • New roof (we did it phases!)
  • New windows (completed during quarantine!)

Top home projects you can tackle with a Members 1st Home Equity Line of Credit.

Much to my husband’s chagrin, I still have a few projects in mind for our home. We’ll definitely have to get new flooring throughout the house at some point — though with a toddler and an aging dog, it’s probably smarter to wait on that for a bit.

I’d love to completely re-do our back patio, which is one of the best ways to add value to your home.

Here are some other ways you could utilize the Members 1st Home Equity Loan to maximize your house for resale:

  • Manufactured stone veneer siding
  • Steel entry door replacement
  • Siding replacement
  • Add or renovate bathrooms
  • Kitchen renovation
  • New roofing

More than home improvements

Did you know you can use the equity on your home for more than home improvement projects?

Here are some other ways you can utilize Members 1st Home Equity Loans in your life:

  • College and school expenses
  • Debt consolidation
  • Life events
