A new look (and beers!) at Midtown Cinema

Midtown Cinema | Harrisburg PA

Harrisburg’s Midtown Cinema has reopened post-pandemic and fully renovated.

One of my favorite things to do is go to the movies. My husband and friends will attest that I’m notorious for curling up and napping during the show – my “most expensive nap,” I’ve actually really missed getting popcorn, watching the trailers, and settling in for the show. And I know I’m not alone!

A Modernized Theater Experience

While Midtown Cinema – Harrisburg’s beloved arthouse cinema – offered movie lovers a fix over the past year of restrictions and shutdowns through private and virtual screenings, but is soon ready to safely welcome back larger groups and individual guests to a “bigger and better” theater.

Midtown Cinema planned a major renovation in 2020 to commemorate its upcoming 20th anniversary and provide an elevated experience for moviegoers. Members and longtime goers do not need to worry – it’s still the same Midtown Cinema everyone loves, just with a bit of a facelift and modern tweaks.

The retro space has been renovated and boasts redesigned indoor and outdoor spaces, with a sleek exterior that is both welcoming and chic — and most importantly, makes the Cinema more easily identifiable to guests.

Beer + a Movie

There have been exciting changes inside, too. One of the most anticipated updates is the Zeroday outpost located in the theater’s lobby. Guests can also grab a gourmet hot dog with their beer, as well as traditional movie theater snacks, to enjoy while they watch the show.

Craft beer taps are pretty hip additions to any movie center, but the renovations in the building’s three theaters really make it modern. Updated seating and soundproofing have been installed for a more comfortable and optimized viewing experience.

“It’s been wonderful to be able to show the kind of film that we love to show,” says Stuart Landon, Director of Community Engagement. “Independent, foreign, and thoughtful movies, beautiful stories that can truly only be enjoyed on a big screen, in a darkened room, surrounded by your community of movie lovers.”

Go to the movies!

For tickets, visit Midtown Cinema’s website. You also can check what’s happening via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Tickets are available to everyone at the member price of $7 to celebrate Midtown’s 20th anniversary.

Midtown is still adhering to social distancing practices and will keep guests informed of safety changes based on city restrictions.

FYI – To aid PA’s vaccination efforts, Midtown has partnered with Rite Aid Pharmacy to offer second doses of the Pfizer vaccine on May 26. Call 866-674-4659 for more information and appointments.
