Mamma Mia! at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre

It’s hard to not tap your toes or sing along when you see a show at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, but it’s almost impossible to not get up and dance during Mamma Mia!, the Theatre’s latest production.

Synopsis

The beloved musical features ABBA’s greatest hits and follows the story of Sophie’s search for her birth father as she prepares for her upcoming wedding.

After reading her mom Donna’s diary, Sophie secretly invites three men her mom wrote about to the wedding, and the three travel back to the Greek island they last visited 20 years ago. Of course, hilarious hijinks ensue as Sophie’s wedding approaches.

Review

Jennie Nasser, who most recently starred as Belle in Dutch Apple’s production of Beauty and the Beast, plays Sophie. Just as she did in Beauty in the Beast, she wows in Mamma Mia! Even our waitress commented how fantastic Nasser was. Her voice and showmanship are incredible, and it’s amazing she’s performing in Lancaster and not on Broadway.

Heather Setzler stars as Donna, former lead singer of “Donna and the Dynamos,” and she’s hilarious with her former “bandmates.” The Dynamos have always been my favorite part of Mamma Mia!, and Dutch Apple’s Dynamos do not disappoint.

The show is just like a fantastic wedding: enchanting and endearing. My friend and I visited last Friday to kick off the weekend, and she texted me the next day saying she couldn’t stop singing the songs. It’s a bright and flashy show that sticks with you and puts some pep in your step!

One of the best things about Dutch Apple is its intimate setting so you really feel transported into the show’s settings – and you really feel like you’re a part of the party during this production. Nasser and Setzler may be the stars, but the entire cast really shines.
