In-person events to return to Midtown Scholar Bookstore, starting this month
Midtown Scholar Bookstore just announced they are returning to in-person events, starting at the end of January! Personally, the independent bookstore’s ability to hop online and keep up with these great author chats — in some cases reeling in some even bigger names thanks to the virtual format — was impressive! Midtown Scholar will continue to stream the in-person events online as well.
7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28 – Novelist Jessamine Chan discusses and signs copies of her debut novel, The School For Good Mothers. Chan’s novel was recently optioned by Jessica Chastain for a television series and was selected by Jenna Bush Hager as the Today Show’s book club pick of the month for January. Chan will be in conversation with #1 New York Times bestselling author (and central PA local!!) Kate Baer. Register here.
7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 – #1 New York Times bestselling author Daniel Pink on his new book, The Power of Regret: How Looking Backward Moves Us Forward. Pink’s book made Forbes’s 10 Must-Read Career and Leadership Books for 2022.
7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 – Renowned scholar Imani Perry discusses her new book, South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation. Perry will be in conversation with scholar-activist Yaba Blay. Perry is the Hughes-Rogers Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University.
Midtown Scholar is taking strict measures to ensure a healthy and safe environment for attendees, authors, and staff. In-person attendees must show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for entrance to the events, masks will be required, and cafe beverages and food will not be available during the event. Midtown Scholar requires registration; limited capacity. In addition, the in-person events will continue to be live-streamed via zoom to accommodate attendees who wish to stay at home.
Harrisburg University Presents announces partnership with Tröegs Independent Brewing for return of Riverfront Concert Series!
The first announced Summer Concert Series show features American indie rockers Lord Huron with special guest First Aid Kit in Harrisburg’s Riverfront Park on Aug. 20. For show information and tickets, click here.
Last year, thousands attended HU Presents Summer Concert Series, held in Riverfront Park in downtown Harrisburg. The series includes live performances from Young the Giant, Jason Isbell, and the 400 Unit, Portugal. The Man, and Cage the Elephant. Previously, HU Presents welcomed Death Cab for Cutie to Riverfront Park during the summer of 2019.
Book private screenings at Midtown Cinema
Did you know you can book private screenings at Midtown Cinema? The cost is $249 (plus the film licensing fee), and the theatre can accommodate up to 50 people.
You’ll be able to purchase concessions, including popcorn, soda, candy, ice cream, and a full coffee bar. Plus, you’ll have access to Zeroday Brewing Co. Outpost, located in Midtown Cinema’s lobby for craft beer and hard seltzer.
Please note, Midtown Cinema requires masks for all guests, and proof of vaccination and photo ID is required to enter the building.
