The lights are back on at Prima Theatre in Lancaster with a show you’ll “kill” to see.
In true Prima style, Murder Ballad is a gritty, one-of-a-kind experience that follows a young mother as she struggles to choose between a stable life with her family or a passionate affair. But as we’ve seen from popular true crime, unleashed desires can have deadly consequences.
Alyssa Wray leads the cast as the show’s Narrator. Wray was a recent finalist on the hit show, American Idol, placing within the Top 9.
I got to chat with the superstar as she prepares to take the stage in Lancaster for a show she describes as “a story of love, lust, and tragedy that could’ve all been prevented, but sometimes the desires of the heart are too strong.”
HF: What are you most looking forward to bringing to Murder Ballad?
AW: I’m looking forward to getting to bring pop/rock vocals to the theatre! My music background and classic musical theatre background have always been separate, but this show gives me the chance to mesh the two!
How has art/music gotten you through the pandemic? Why is art important to you?
Art/music not only got me through the pandemic but also changed my life amidst all the craziness in the world. I’m so lucky to be able to do what I love full time now. My favorite part about the art I create is sharing it with others and to bring joy. I love it.
You’ve performed nationally on huge stages, why did you choose to come to Lancaster and work with Prima?
Theatre is my first love. Any chance I get to dive deep into a character and bring a story to life I take it! It’s where my heart is. I’m just so excited to join the Prima family and tell this wild story!
Murder Ballad opens March 25 and runs March 26, April 1, 2, 8 and 9. Purchase tickets online.
The show is directed by Elizabeth Lucas, co-founder of the New York Music Theatre Festival and Director of Prima’s 2019 production of Jekyll & Hyde. Paulino Contreras serves as Music Director, with Movement Direction by award-winning choreographer Kristin Pontz.
