Dutch Apple Gives the Razzle Dazzle

Share Article

Not able to make it on vacation before the summer ends? Well, thanks to Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, you can visit Chicago – and all its jazz.

Audiences can paint the town for the next few weeks as the Theatre hosts a production of Chicago: The Musical through Sept. 17.

About the show

In this “notorious” story of passion, scandal, and fame, aspiring star Roxie Hart (Katie Frieden) would “kill” to make it big and be loved by thousands in 1920s Chicago. When she does just that and finds herself in jail, it’s truly showtime as she hires Chicago’s slickest criminal defense lawyer to spin her crime from soulless to sensational. Roxie’s star is rising, much to the dismay of rival cellmate Velma Kelly (Logan Floyd) who’s also vying for the spotlight. From jailhouse to courthouse, Roxie’s and Velma’s stars continue to rise – but can they keep up the act?

Featuring classic show tunes like, “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” “When You’re Good to Mama,” and “Roxie”, this visit to Chicago is sure to razzle-dazzle.

Hope’s Review

Just like its stars, this show is soulful, sassy, and sensational. Frieden and Floyd bring their characters to life with their own spunk and style, and while they each shine in their own right, they really are a delight as a duo. Edward Miskie (Billy Flynn), Brian Kalinowski (Amos Hart), Christina Wells (Matron “Mama” Morton), and G.A. James (Mary Sunshine) also deliver, too. It truly is a great ensemble!

This is one of the Dutch Apple’s best shows of the season (which has been fantastic already!). Every part of the production – from the band’s feature as part of the set to the dazzling dance numbers to the sassy solos – is top-notch. Dutch Apple delivers the 20s’ glitz and glam audiences expect. The show is rarely produced outside of New York City, so this is a great opportunity to catch the show live in Central PA.

Dutch Apple offers a variety of show experiences, including a full buffet dinner, a plated dinner option, and matinees. Grab tickets here.

Pro tip: Try the “They Both Reached for the Gin” cocktail to sip during the show!
