Movember 2011

Share Article

image from us.movember.comI’m not sure when mustaches became so cool. I still contend that only a few distinguished gentlemen – Tom Selleck and my dad, for example – truly rock them, but now they’ve become sort of hipster/ironic. I don’t know, and it doesn’t matter – especially now that men are using their mustache-growing powers for good.

Since it gained popularity in the U.S. in 2007, Movember has been the “it” fundraiser for men’s health, particularly awareness and research for prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.

It all starts with a clean-shaven face on Nov. 1. From there, men shave, wax and otherwise groom their facial follicles into all styles of mustachery.

Locally, Harrisburg team, “Harrisburg Mo Bros” are beginning their fundraising campaign with a mustache-themed Halloween party Monday night at Garrason’s Tavern from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., featuring $3 mixed drinks.

Members of the Mo Bros team will be guest bartending and kindly ask for your (cash) generosity during the event. All cahs tips will be donated to Movember.

I think you probably one or two of these guys. Meet some of the crew:

Stay tuned for more events and fundraising hijinks from this crew.
